Electoral Commission confirms Nzamwita, Rwemalika to run for FERWAFA Presidency

The Electoral Commission of Rwanda Football Federation (FERWAFA) has declared incumbent Nzamwita Vincent and Rwemalika Felicite as the official aspiring candidates to run for presidency of the country’s football body.

The FERWAFA Electoral Committee chairman Adolphe Kalisa confirmed the development in a press conference held on Monday that Nzamwita and Rwemalika were the only candidates allowed to vie for the top seat while Rurangirwa Louis was omitted on grounds that he didn’t meet required necessities to stand for the top seat.

Initially, Nzamwita, Rwemalika and Rurangirwa submitted their nomination papers to run for the presidency of Rwanda Football Federation on November 28, 2017.

Having received scrutinized all nomination papers from interested candidates, the Electoral Committee president Adolphe Kalisa declared the approved aspiring candidate.

He said, “Having duly satisfied the terms and requirements set by the FERWAFA Electoral Commission, we are confirming Mr. Nzamwita Vincent and Madam Rwemalika Felicite as the official aspiring candidates for the presidency of FERWAFA for 2018-2021,”

“We also regret to inform you that Rurangirwa Louis could not be allowed to aspire for this position because he never met the requirements as listed in the FERWAFA Electoral Code,” added Kalisa.

He further added that both candidates are allowed to begin campaigning but urged them to exercvise discipline and professionalism during the campaigning process which will climax on and this process will climax on December 29, 2017 before the elections are held on December 30 in an elective FERWAFA general assembly.

Nzamwita has been president of Rwanda Football Federation (FERWAFA) since January 2014 will be battling Rwemalika who has been the Executive Committee member in charge of women football commission and was recently elected as the vice president of Rwanda National Olympic and Sport Committee.

The newly elected Ferwafa president will serve a four-year term from 2018 to 2021.
