For close to three years now, Rwanda has been in the international spotlight over its refugee partnership with the United Kingdom. Many people around the world not only in politically unstable nations but also from developing nations often flee their homelands for the UK through the British channel.
These kinds of refugees are often referred to as channel migrants. Many people wish to make the United Kingdom their home against all odds. It seems impossible for the United Kingdom to simply welcome everyone that seeks refuge. For this reason, many have suggested that they put a total ban on channel migrants while others are suggesting that the Migrant partnership with Rwanda is actually the best option.
The United Kingdom-Rwanda migrant partnership that was signed in April 2022 makes it possible for the UK to transfer all asylum seekers to Rwanda for screening before resettlement in the United Kingdom.
Early this year, the former British prime minister Borris Johnson advised the new prime minister Rishi Sunak to continue with the controversial migrant deal with Rwanda.
According to our sources, British prime minister Rishi Sunak recently had a phone call conversation with President Paul Kagame of Rwanda where they discussed the Rwanda migration partnership. The two leaders committed to continue working together to ensure that the partnership successfully works out.
