USA: Rwandans community abroad – Midwest Mark Heroes Day

Rwandans living in Indiana and Michigan in Midwest joined hands to celebrate 24th Rwanda national Heroes day. The celebration were held under the theme “Dukomeze ubutwari, twubake u Rwanda twifuza”.

Previously extraordinary Cabinet Meeting chaired by His Excellency the President of the Republic, Paul KAGAME, convened in Village URUGWIRO, and The Minister of Sports and Culture informed the Cabinet Meeting that the National Heroes Day will be celebrated on 1st February 2018 at Village level.

The proposed theme is “Dukomeze ubutwari, twubake u Rwanda twifuza”. The National Heroes’ Day shall be preceded by the Heroes’ Week from 24th to 31st January 2018. During this week different activities shall be done to commemorate National Heroes.
In his remarks,Brigadier General Vincent Nyakarundi told attendees about the deeds that characterized heroes in Rwanda referring to Rwandan history.

Brigadier General Vincent Nyakarundi reminded them that Heroes existed in Rwanda from many years ago and were grouped into 3 categories namely: Uruti,impotore and Umudende.

He said that after Genocide against Tutsi followed by a 5 years’ war of ex far militia name themselves Abacengezi , government of Rwanda resumed the culture of crowning those who are confirmed to be a heroes.
Currently heroes are grouped into 3 categories: Imanzi, Imena and Ingenzi.

Last year,President Kagame has awarded the inaugural Igihango National Order of Outstanding Friendship to nine personalities, in recognition of their exemplary service to Rwanda in various ways since the end of the Genocide Against the Tutsi.

The inaugural recipients of the National Order of Outstanding Friendship include, Hezi Bezalel, Howard G. Buffett, Gilbert R. Chagoury, John W. Dick, Dr. Paul Farmer, Dafroza Mukarumongi-Gauthier, Alain
